The African Democratic Congress presidential campaign council rejects Nigerian Information Minister Dele Alake’s accusations against Atiku Abubakar and calls for evidence. The party says rising food, fuel and transport prices remain Nigerians’ main concern, according to Vanguard.
The presidential campaign council of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a Nigerian opposition party, has rejected Information Minister Dele Alake’s accusations against former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the ADC in a case involving artificial-intelligence-manipulated content. Phrank Shaibu, the council’s director of strategic communications, asked the minister to provide the names, dates and forensic analysis results supporting his accusations, according to the Nigerian daily Vanguard.
Phrank Shaibu accused Dele Alake of seeking to divert attention from the economic difficulties affecting households. He cited a petrol price of around 1,400 naira per litre, diesel at more than 2,000 naira and food inflation close to 20%, saying that these pressures were not fabricated information, according to Vanguard.
The campaign council also criticised the organisation of the APC rally, the party of President Bola Tinubu, in Kaduna. It requested explanations about supporters who had come from distant states and were sleeping in the streets, as well as accidents that allegedly involved participants from Sokoto and Abuja, according to Vanguard.
The ADC’s response comes after Atiku Abubakar’s proposals on fuel costs. The opposition candidate had promised to restore fuel subsidies on 20 October, then proposed targeted assistance in response to fuel costs on the same day.
