Fourteen bandits were killed in a shootout with hunters at Gidan Wawo, in Nigeria’s Katsina State, while a hunter and a traveller also died. Security forces had been alerted to the arrival of 26 armed men, according to the Katsina government.
Twenty-six armed bandits travelled towards Dawan Laila forest in Nigeria’s Katsina State before attacking a vehicle at Mazaɓar Kakumi, according to state commissioner for security and home affairs Nasir Mu’azu, cited by Aminiya. Hunters from Gidan Wawo then confronted the attackers and killed 14.
The vehicle’s owner, 50-year-old Jamilu Lawal, was burned alive in the fire that engulfed the car. Three passengers were rescued, while a hunter, 29-year-old Mohammed Ibrahim Jidda, was killed and another, 25-year-old Usman Sunday, was lightly wounded by gunfire. Authorities fear a retaliatory attack by the bandits and are asking residents to pass any reliable information to security forces.
