Félix Tshisekedi has tasked the Congolese government with drawing up a roadmap to develop industry, modernise infrastructure, strengthen vocational training and support research. Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka will coordinate the initiative with several ministries, according to the report of the 101st Council of Ministers meeting read by Patrick Muyaya.

Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has tasked the government with drawing up and implementing a coordinated roadmap to develop industry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The plan will cover resource mobilisation, infrastructure modernisation, vocational training, research and innovation, according to the report of the 101st meeting of the Council of Ministers, read out on national television on Friday.

Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka will coordinate the initiative with the ministers responsible for Industry, Vocational Training, Higher Education, Mines, Electricity and the State Portfolio, Communications and Media Minister Patrick Muyaya said. The roadmap must also provide for industrial partnerships and link the project to the battery value chain and the Mussompo special economic zone.

The government wants to bring vocational training more closely in line with businesses’ needs and strengthen local skills. The presidential directive also links the local processing of natural resources to infrastructure modernisation and support for research, Le Potentiel reports.
