People from the Grande Orientale region announced in Goma that they were joining the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), led by former president Joseph Kabila. Their statement denounced Félix Tshisekedi’s governance, alleged misappropriation and insecurity in several eastern provinces, according to Kivumorningpost.
People from the Grande Orientale region announced on Saturday 24 October 2026 in Goma that they were joining the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), a politico-military movement led by former Congolese president Joseph Kabila. They adopted a declaration during an extraordinary general assembly, according to Kivumorningpost.
The signatories presented the FRN as a response to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s political, economic and security challenges. They accused President Félix Tshisekedi’s government of poor governance and denounced the alleged misappropriation of more than $200 million intended to compensate victims of the Kisangani wars, as well as more than $700 million allocated to health and humanitarian emergencies, according to their declaration, as reported by Kivumorningpost.
They also criticised the state of the roads linking Kisangani, Bunia, Isiro and Buta, community violence in Ituri and Tshopo, and the exploitation of mining resources to the detriment of local populations. They opposed the referendum law adopted by the National Assembly and any amendment to the Constitution, while denouncing arrests and convictions they considered arbitrary.
This move comes after the support announced for the Nande notables on 18 October, and that of the Kumu community on 19 October. Civil society organisations in eastern DR Congo had also declared their support for the movement on 20 October.
