Two students from Walikale territory were killed on Thursday 23 October 2026 by suspected members of the Wazalendo on the Bulambika–Hombo road in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a statement by the head of the Wanianga sector, Dr Akilimali Bamwisho Descartes, quoted by Kivumorningpost. The victims were travelling to Kisangani to continue medical studies after passing through Hombo from Goma.

The sector chief called for an immediate judicial investigation to establish the circumstances of the double murder, identify those responsible and bring them to justice. The announcement comes after an ambush in South Kivu that killed three travellers, reported on 23 October, amid violence targeting people travelling in eastern DR Congo.
