Fifty-eight people suspected of causing unrest in Kolwezi were arrested in the Luilu, Kapata and Musonoie areas, then presented to the provincial minister of the Interior and Security, Roy Kaumba Mayonde, on Friday 23 October 2026, reports Kivumorningpost.

The arrests took place amid demands from artisanal miners. The authorities suspect that those arrested took advantage of the tensions to cause disorder in several parts of the city. They are to be brought before the judicial authorities under a fast-track procedure for flagrante delicto cases, while their guilt remains to be established.

Tensions linked to artisanal mining had already led to the closure of schools in Kolwezi on 21 October, according to our previous article on schools closed in Kolwezi.
