The Greater Oriental Political and Community Leaders’ Dynamic has condemned the creation of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation, a rebel movement led by former Congolese president Joseph Kabila. It says the initiative threatens peace, institutions and the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to an ACP-cited statement.
The Greater Oriental Political and Community Leaders’ Dynamic has condemned the creation of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), a politico-military movement led by former Congolese president Joseph Kabila. It considers the initiative a threat to peace, institutional stability and the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a statement signed by its coordinator, Ayi Indambituo, and sent on Sunday to the Congolese Press Agency (ACP).
The organisation recalled that the Greater Oriental region has been severely affected by wars, massacres, population displacement and the destruction of infrastructure. It said the region’s residents now want peace, security and development rather than a new conflict, according to the ACP.
The position came after people from the Greater Oriental region joined the FRN, as announced on 24 October in an article about the move. It also forms part of a series of calls to counter Joseph Kabila’s initiatives, launched on 17 October by Arsène Mwaka and followed on 18 October by a call for sanctions from Christophe Lutundula’s ADP.
