The Nigerian army is sending 600 personnel to India for specialised jungle and mountain warfare training, with an initial group of 300 soldiers leaving Abuja. The initiative is intended to strengthen their capabilities against terrorist and criminal groups and deepen defence cooperation between Nigeria and India, according to the Nigerian army.

The initiative follows Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s defence, on 24 October, of a more mobile and professional Nigerian army. It is also part of efforts announced by the army to strengthen its capabilities against armed groups operating in the country.
