Russian Wagner Group mercenaries and Chadian rebels have positioned themselves in Mimi, near the border between Chad and the Central African Republic, ahead of a new military operation. The arms convoy reportedly left Birao on 23 October and the two groups continued towards Saraibo, according to Corbeau News Centrafrique.

Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group handed weapons and ammunition to Chadian rebels near Saraibo, in Vakaga, to prepare for a new offensive. Several military lorries, including FAW vehicles, left Birao on Friday 23 October towards Am Dafok, according to Corbeau News Centrafrique.

The convoy and the Chadian rebels have been in the village of Mimi since Sunday 25 October, about 11 kilometres from Saraibo and near Tissi, on the border between the Central African Republic and Chad. Saraibo is about two kilometres from Tissi, according to Corbeau News Centrafrique.

The movement comes 15 days after an attack carried out on 10 October in the Tissi area. The Russian mercenaries used a helicopter against Chadian military positions, wounding several soldiers and causing serious tensions between Bangui and N’Djamena. The Chadian army has since reinforced its positions in Tissi, according to Corbeau News Centrafrique.

The new operation is part of a series of incidents on the Chadian border, notably following the attack on the mining brigade in Miski reported on 15 October and the drone strike in Bamina reported on 22 October.
