Mozambican President Daniel Chapo says the Tana Forum consensus should strengthen unity and cohesion among African countries. In Bahir Dar, he also presented his country’s inclusive national dialogue as a model for seeking compromise, according to Jornal Notícias.

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo called for stronger African unity and cohesion after attending the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security. He said consensus among leaders should lead to increased joint action, during a press conference held on Saturday in Addis Ababa, according to Jornalnoticias.

Daniel Chapo also presented Mozambique’s experience of the Inclusive National Dialogue, an initiative open to different forces in society and intended to build consensus. He called for political and social differences to be seen as a democratic asset rather than a source of division, rejecting violence and hatred as means of settling disagreements, according to Jornalnoticias.

The Mozambican head of state stressed that peace and security were prerequisites for the continent’s development. He added that peace was not limited to the end of conflicts, but also required responding to people’s aspirations and creating opportunities.

This position follows the [dialogue and economic independence at the heart of Mozambican peace] advocated by Daniel Chapo on 4 October. It comes as the 12th Tana Forum, held in Bahir Dar around economic sovereignty and geopolitical transformations, brings African leaders together to discuss ways of building an African model of peace.
