Mozambique’s railway company took part in a regional conference on modernising railway infrastructure and facilitating trade across the SADC area. Discussions focused on financing, harmonising procedures and cross-border cooperation, according to the AIM agency.
Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM) took part in discussions on the modernisation of railway infrastructure at the 15th Southern Africa Railway Conference and Exhibition, held in Sandton, South Africa. The discussions also covered the harmonisation of transport policies and cross-border cooperation within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), according to the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM).
The meeting brings together public decision-makers, investors and international suppliers to discuss rail financing, multimodal transport and the integration of regional networks. CFM believes that this integration can facilitate the transport of goods, reduce logistical constraints and improve connections between production centres, markets and ports, AIM reports.
The participation comes two days after the announcement that Mozambique’s railway corridors would be opened to private operators. The conference discussions therefore follow on from this measure announced on 23 October, the opening of railway corridors to private operators.
