Mali’s Directorate General of Trade and Competition (DGCC) seized 20,240 non-compliant reinforcing bars during an inspection carried out on 20 and 21 October 2026 with the Malian Agency for Metrology (AMAM), according to the DGCC. Inspectors found 3,240 eight-millimetre bars in a yard next to a company they visited, as well as 16,000 eight-millimetre bars and 1,000 five-millimetre bars at another company.

The DGCC says these products could compromise the strength of buildings and the safety of the public. It said it would continue its inspections to protect consumers and ensure fair competition, according to the same statement.
