The Gambian government plans to restore university catering from 26 October and deploy all 20 buses operated by state-owned GTSC to address difficulties reported by students. It also announced measures on water and internet access after a meeting with stakeholders, according to the Gambian Ministry of Higher Education.

The Gambian government will restore catering at the University of The Gambia from Monday 26 October and deploy all 20 buses operated by the state-owned transport company to address difficulties reported by students. The measures were announced on Saturday 24 October by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, after a meeting with the parties concerned.

Catering will be provided by the previous contractors or new suppliers while the university continues its long-term selection process. The institution must also install more water dispensers and work with the national water and electricity company, NAWEC, to improve supply. It plans to approach telecoms operators and make greater use of the Gambian Research and Education Network, GAMREN, to improve internet connectivity on campus.

The 20 buses operated by the Gambia Transport Service Company are also due to be deployed from 26 October. The government said discussions with stakeholders would continue to review transport arrangements and find sustainable solutions to students’ mobility needs.
