Former Kenyan deputy president Rigathi Gachagua received Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, then Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, to discuss opposition unity. The talks covered the electoral timetable and choice of its presidential candidate, according to The Standard.
Discussions on the unity of Kenya’s opposition intensified on Monday between Rigathi Gachagua, Kenya’s former deputy president and leader of the Democratic Congress party, and Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Patriotic Front. The two men discussed the selection of the opposition’s presidential candidate, the electoral timetable and the internal workings of their coalition, the Kenyan daily The Standard reports.
After Kalonzo Musyoka and his delegation left Rigathi Gachagua’s residence in Wamunyoro, Eugene Wamalwa, leader of the Democratic Action Party, and representatives of the Luhya council of elders also took part in discussions on announcing a joint candidate and the electoral timetable, according to The Standard.
The talks follow Kalonzo Musyoka’s call for Kenya’s opposition to unite for 2027, launched on 25 October. They come after Rigathi Gachagua’s party refused, on 29 September, to join the Ukombozi Alliance.
