Kenyan President William Ruto called Wiper opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka “my friend” during a visit to Mbiuni, Machakos County. The statement came after months of political clashes, as Ruto commissioned a 1.7 billion-shilling water supply project, Tuko reports.
Kenyan President William Ruto called Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the opposition Wiper party, a “friend” during a visit to Mbiuni in Machakos County, Tuko reports. He was speaking on 24 October during the commissioning of the Mwala Cluster water supply project, funded with 1.7 billion Kenyan shillings by the government and the African Development Bank.
William Ruto said God was using Kalonzo Musyoka and him in the service of Kenya. He credited his government with building roads, supplying water and organising medical services, while presenting the Wiper leader as someone who recognises and publicises these achievements.
The tone contrasts with the tense exchanges between the two men ahead of the 2027 general election. William Ruto particularly praised Kalonzo Musyoka’s honesty when he acknowledges work carried out by the government, unlike other opposition leaders whom he accused of denying the results of public projects.
The statement follows Kalonzo Musyoka’s tribute to victims of the 2024 protests on 20 October. It also follows Wavinya Ndeti’s denial on 30 September of a rapprochement between Kalonzo Musyoka and William Ruto, according to the denial of a rapprochement with Ruto.
