Kenyan Governor George Natembeya and MP Kakai Bisau clashed during the funeral of former ambassador Burudi Nabwera in Kiminini, briefly disrupting the ceremony. Natembeya called on western Kenya to support Senator Edwin Sifuna against William Ruto in 2027, reports Citizen.
The funeral of Burudi Nabwera, a former ambassador and former Kenyan assistant minister, was briefly disrupted in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, after a confrontation between Governor George Natembeya and Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau. The ceremony was interrupted when Kakai Bisau attempted to intervene during George Natembeya’s speech, according to Citizen.
George Natembeya accused President William Ruto of failing to keep his promises and called on western Kenya to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s bid for the 2027 presidency. Opposition figures, including Bumula MP Jack Wamboka and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, also called for a united candidacy against William Ruto.
The confrontation comes amid political tensions in which George Natembeya is already at odds with William Ruto. On 10 October, the Kenyan president accused him of blocking projects in Kenya in an accusation targeting the Trans Nzoia governor. The funeral also prompted calls to unite the western region’s vote behind Edwin Sifuna, whose nationwide tour had led to increased security in Nairobi on 13 September.
