The husband suspected of killing Kenyan singer Sheila Odoyo has been arrested in Tanzania after two years of searches. Investigators found him about 70 kilometres from the Kenyan border, living under a false identity, during a joint operation, according to Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Kenyan police have arrested in Tanzania the man suspected of murdering his wife Sheila Odoyo, an Ohangla dancer known by the stage name Sheila Wegesha. The arrest, announced on Saturday 24 October by Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), comes after about two years of searches conducted with the Tanzanian authorities, according to Tuko.

Investigators located the suspect in Kirongwe, in the Shirati district, where he allegedly ran a club about 70 kilometres from the Muhuru border post. He was living under a false identity and had a Tanzanian national identity card that did not bear his known name, according to the DCI.

Sheila Odoyo was found dead on 9 May 2024 in her home in Hill View Estate, Athi River, with signs of a struggle in her bedroom. Her husband had disappeared before the body was discovered, while his vehicle was later found abandoned near Kencom, in central Nairobi. Police officers from Athi River and Nyatike took part in the operation with their Tanzanian counterparts, according to the DCI.
