Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of Kenya’s Wiper Patriotic Front, calls on the opposition to field a joint presidential candidate in the 2027 general election. He turned William Ruto’s praise into campaign material at a rally in Tharaka Ward, Kitui County, according to Tuko.
Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Patriotic Front and a Kenyan opposition figure, on Saturday 24 October called for a single opposition presidential candidate to be selected for the 2027 general election, Tuko reports. He was speaking during a thanksgiving service at the Kamikau Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kitui County, Kenya.
The intervention followed praise addressed by President William Ruto to Kalonzo Musyoka during a tour of Ukambani. The Wiper official presented the compliments as recognition of his electoral weight and urged his supporters in Tharaka Ward to turn this position into political victory.
Kalonzo Musyoka compared his four decades in public life with the Israelites’ 40 years in the wilderness. He said this period had been marked by patience and the protection of his dignity, before accusing the government of poor governance, misappropriation of public resources and personal enrichment.
His call comes after Uhuru Kenyatta called on Kenya’s opposition to unite, on 3 October. It also follows statements by William Ruto, who called Kalonzo Musyoka a friend on 24 October, the day the president also promised projects in his rival’s strongholds.
