Kenya has extradited Sancho Kibutu to the United States, a fugitive wanted for 13 years after his conviction over the death of a teenager in a road accident in California. Arrested in Nairobi on 9 September 2026 at the request of US authorities, he was handed over to the United States on Friday 23 October to be sentenced there, Tuko reports.
Kibutu was found guilty in 2013 by a Madera County jury of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The accident, which occurred on 13 August 2011, killed a 16-year-old passenger and seriously injured three other people. He left the United States before his sentencing hearing, scheduled for October 2013.
Kenya’s prosecution service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the FBI, the US Department of Justice and the Madera County District Attorney’s Office coordinated the procedure. The FBI praised their cooperation, carried out over four weeks before the Kenyan courts, according to Tuko.
