The killings of Mame Diarra Sow, 24, in Thiès and Aminata Sy, 17, in Podor bring to 13 the number of reported femicides recorded in Senegal in 10 months. WaxJotna is calling for justice, protection mechanisms and recognition of femicide in the Penal Code, Pressafrik reports.
Senegalese collective WaxJotna has recorded two new femicides, bringing the number of reported cases in Senegal to 13 in 10 months. Mame Diarra Sow, 24, was stabbed in Thiès, and Aminata Sy, 17, was found dead in Podor, according to the organisation’s statement published on 26 October 2026 in Dakar and reported by Senego.
WaxJotna stressed that one of the victims was a minor and called for stronger protection for adolescent girls. The collective also called for justice for the victims, prevention and protection mechanisms, recognition of femicide as a specific crime in Senegal’s Penal Code and the production of reliable data. It called for the immediate implementation of the announced measures.
The deaths occurred just over a month after the second National Action Plan for the Eradication of Gender-Based Violence was approved. In September, following a reported femicide in Vélingara, WaxJotna had already called on the authorities to provide prevention resources and protection mechanisms. The two women killed in Podor and Thiès are identified in a previous tally.
