Adiouma Sow warned on Monday 26 October that the blockage of the 2026 supplementary finance bill (LFR) could jeopardise the lifting of the freeze on agreements between the Senegalese state and media companies. He blamed the refusal of deputies from the Pastef party to vote on the budget text.
Senegalese Prime Minister Al Aminou Lo had announced on Saturday 24 October that the freeze would be lifted, a measure that could provide financial support to the media. “The decision […] risks being disrupted,” Adiouma Sow said, according to Seneweb.
The warning came after the supplementary finance bill was rejected and amid discussions on Pastef’s amendments. The government notably called on the party to cost its proposals, while Aminata Touré estimated the risk linked to the budget for the private sector at 300 billion CFA francs.
