Forty-six Ghanaians still in South Africa are awaiting evacuation, according to Michael Addo, a representative of those evacuated. The request comes after an operation repatriated 1,964 Ghanaians at a reported cost of 49.72 million cedis, while public controversy is discouraging further appeals to the government, reports MyJoyOnline.

Forty-six Ghanaians who were due to benefit from the evacuation operation from South Africa remain stranded there, said Michael Addo, leader of the Aggrieved South Africa Evacuees group, according to MyJoyOnline. He said the controversy surrounding the operation and criticism on social media were making it harder to request a further intervention from the Ghanaian government.

The situation comes after the government spent 49.72 million cedis to repatriate 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa. Michael Addo condemned the public humiliation of those evacuated and said accountability should not come at the expense of their dignity and psychological wellbeing. He also accused members of the parliamentary opposition, the New Patriotic Party and some media outlets of seeking to establish government wrongdoing, according to MyJoyOnline.
