Nigerian actor Steven Echendu dies

Nigerian actor, producer and director Steven Echendu has died, his colleague Wisdom Nwankwo announced in a tribute on Facebook. His death comes just days after actor Francis Duru’s, while Echendu’s age and the circumstances remain unknown, Pmnewsnigeria reports.
Nigerian actor, producer and director Steven Echendu has died, plunging Nollywood into mourning just hours after the death of veteran actor Francis Duru was announced. Echendu’s death was made public on Friday in a Facebook tribute by his colleague Wisdom Nwankwo, who said he had heard the news on Thursday, Pmnewsnigeria reports.
Nwankwo described Echendu as one of the pioneers of Nollywood’s early years and recalled his association with OJs Production. He also paid tribute to media professional Austinfair Nwaulu, who died on Saturday and was buried on Tuesday, lamenting three deaths in the industry in the space of five days.
Also known as Steve Echendu, the late actor appeared in « Fury » in 2019, « Knockout Blessing » in 2018 and « Infant at Heart » in 2024. Media reports have mentioned an unspecified illness, but no public details have been provided about the cause of his death, his age or his final hours, according to Pmnewsnigeria.
His death follows the death of Francis Duru at 57, announced on 23 October. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu later paid tribute to the veteran actor.
