Nigerian candidate Ovie Omo-Agege threatened to kill anyone who tried to rig the 2027 general election. The former deputy Senate president, a candidate for the Delta Central senatorial seat, made the remarks at a political rally, according to TheCable.

Ovie Omo-Agege, former deputy speaker of the Nigerian Senate and Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate in the Delta Central senatorial election, threatened to kill anyone who tried to rig the 2027 general election. “Whoever rigs the election that day, we will kill them,” he said at a political rally in his constituency, according to TheCable.

The former senator accused electoral fraudsters of compromising the future of Nigerians and their children. He said his supporters would fight any manipulation of the results and would not rely on the courts.

Ovie Omo-Agege left the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party in Nigeria, in a letter dated 22 May addressed to the leadership of his local branch. He is now seeking to reclaim the Delta Central senatorial seat under the banner of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, according to TheCable.

The threats come as President Bola Tinubu has asked security agencies to ensure a free, fair and credible general election in 2027. Defence Minister Christopher Musa relayed the instruction after a meeting of the National Security Council chaired by the head of state in Abuja.
