Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima recalled on Saturday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had supported Atiku Abubakar after his break with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007. He was speaking in Kaduna at the launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 election, according to Daily Trust.
Shettima said Tinubu had offered Atiku political support and a platform to run for president. He also cited Tinubu’s support for Nuhu Ribadu in 2011, followed by his role in Muhammadu Buhari’s victories in 2015 and 2019, rejecting accusations that the president was hostile to northern Nigeria.
The Vice-President asked northern voters to support Tinubu for a second term, highlighting the government’s record. He notably mentioned investments in higher education, funding for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and several infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Kano and Kano-Maradi railway lines.
The statement came after the APC launched Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Kaduna on 23 October, covered in the launch of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign. Atiku Abubakar, now a candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had called on 21 October for an audit of anti-Ebola funds allocated to Tinubu’s government.
