Phrank Shaibu, communications official for the African Democratic Congress campaign, accuses President Bola Tinubu of being disconnected from Nigerians’ economic hardship. He criticises him for blaming the opposition for the food crisis and links the rising cost of living to the removal of the fuel subsidy, according to ARISE News.

Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communications for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council, accused Nigerian President Bola Tinubu of being disconnected from the economic difficulties facing the public. He criticised him in particular for blaming the opposition for hunger after three and a half years in power, in an interview broadcast on Sunday by ARISE News and reported by The Chronicle.

Shaibu called on the president to compare the cost of living at the start of his term, on 29 May 2023, with the situation today. He attributed some of the rise in prices to the removal of the fuel subsidy, a measure Tinubu announced when he took office, and said many Nigerians can no longer afford three meals a day.

The ADC official also argued that increases in university fees had forced some students to leave their institutions, despite the creation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). He further criticised Tinubu for continuing to blame his opponents, even though the APC, the president’s party, governed Nigeria for the eight years before the 2023 election.
