Ghanaian MP Jerry Ahmed Shaib is calling for four to six Metro Mass Transit public buses to serve Weija-Gbawe and nearby communities, where some journeys now cost up to 70 cedis, compared with 15 to 20 previously. He is urging the Transport Ministry to increase services to reduce passengers’ costs, according to MyJoyOnline.

Weija-Gbawe MP Jerry Ahmed Shaib has asked Ghana’s Ministry of Transport to deploy at least four to six Metro Mass Transit buses in his constituency, particularly in Weija, Gbawe and Tetegu. He was speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday 26 October, MyJoyOnline reports.

Residents of these areas often have to take several vehicles, and the cost of a journey has risen from 15 to 20 Ghanaian cedis to 60 or 70 cedis. Jerry Ahmed Shaib says additional buses would reduce fares and ease residents’ daily travel, according to MyJoyOnline.

The MP also welcomed the introduction of a temporary contraflow system on the Kasoa-Accra road to reduce congestion, while calling for road safety to remain a priority. His warning comes days after a collision damaged three vehicles in Accra on 23 October.
