Ghana’s Parliament Clerk, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, is calling for a new chamber and more workspaces for MPs and staff. Current rooms can accommodate only about 30 to 35 people at parliamentary group meetings, he said at a workshop in Accra, according to MyJoyOnline.
Ghana’s Parliament needs a new chamber, workspaces and meeting rooms for its MPs and departments, Parliament Clerk Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror said at a workshop in Accra. He explained that the current facilities do not allow MPs to properly carry out their constitutional responsibilities and force some parliamentary groups to meet elsewhere.
The rooms set aside for parliamentary group meetings can accommodate only around 30 to 35 people. The limited capacity could worsen difficulties during budget scrutiny, when committees will hear from several representatives of government ministries, departments and agencies, Mr Djietror said.
Majority Leader James Agalga called on parliamentary journalists to publish accurate, balanced and contextualised reports. He said the media should help improve Parliament’s image through the quality of its work and accountability, rather than by suppressing criticism, MyJoyOnline reports.
The request comes ahead of the resumption of Ghana’s Parliament on 3 November, announced in the parliamentary calendar.
