The Ghana Immigration Service has arrested Prince James, a 34-year-old Nigerian suspected of luring a compatriot to Ghana to exploit her in prostitution, Punch reports, citing ChannelOne News. The victim reported the incident about a week before the arrest, said Lawrence Agyapong, regional immigration commander for the Savannah Region.
According to preliminary investigations, the woman was allegedly lured to Ghana with the promise of a nursing job before being forced into prostitution. She also reportedly said the suspect demanded six million naira, equivalent to about 50,000 Ghanaian cedis, to secure her release. An agent based in Lagos who arranged her trip had allegedly deceived her about the nature of the job on offer, according to her testimony reported by ChannelOne News.
Investigators suspect Prince James is linked to a trafficking network exploiting young women in several West African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Benin and Togo. The suspect was transferred to the Immigration Service’s national headquarters in Accra for further investigation, while the victim was placed in a safe location and is receiving support, according to Punch.
