Residents of Damang, in Ghana's Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, have praised roadworks carried out over the past six months by Damang Gold Mine under its new management. They nevertheless called for more jobs for women and National Service personnel during an Asempa FM programme reported by MyJoyOnline.
In Damang, in Ghana's Western Region, residents on Thursday 22 October praised roadworks and changes observed since Damang Gold Mine Ltd took over the gold mine six months earlier. During a special edition of Ekosiisen, a programme on Asempa FM radio in Tarkwa, they nevertheless called for more jobs for women and National Service personnel, MyJoyOnline reports.
One resident thanked Ibrahim Mahama, chief executive of Ghanaian company Engineers and Planners, for the roads that had been built, making journeys to Kumasi easier and less tiring. Other residents called on the mine's contractors to recruit more young National Service personnel, and on the company to offer more positions to women.
The concession was transferred to Engineers and Planners on 18 April 2026, after the expiry of Gold Fields Ghana Limited's lease. The transfer, overseen by Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, followed a government-organised tender supervised by Ghana's Minerals Commission.
