Two Ghana Immigration Service officers must repay up to 57,006 Ghanaian cedis received improperly by 7 November 2026. Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said officials who authorised the payments would be held financially liable, according to MyJoyOnline.

Two officers from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Abida Zakaria and Abora Angelina, must repay 57,006 cedis in unearned salaries by 7 November 2026 at the latest. Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak announced this on 20 October before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee, reports MyJoyOnline.

The minister warned that officials who authorised the payments would be held financially liable if the sums were not recovered. He also announced the introduction of human resources management software to update postings more quickly and verify the salaries of transferred officers.

The committee also examined 37,907 cedis in excess salary arrears paid to seven officers. About 24,900 cedis has been recovered, leaving nearly 12,900 cedis to be collected, according to Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak. He asked that interest be considered flexibly, particularly for new recruits, while the committee’s chair reminded beneficiaries that they had to report clearly excessive payments.
