Ghana targets three to four days of weekly water supply in Accra

Ghana Water Company Limited is targeting three to four days of weekly supply in several Greater Accra areas facing persistent shortages. The company is reorganising its network and wants to restart the Teshie desalination plant, while residents are calling for better information, according to MyJoyOnline.

Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Ghana’s public water distribution company, is targeting three to four days of supply per week in affected areas of Greater Accra. The company is reorganising its network after several weeks of irregular distribution, according to MyJoyOnline.

GWCL is also working to bring the Teshie desalination plant back into service, supplying parts of eastern Accra, and to increase treatment capacity over the longer term. Its shutdown forced the company to redirect water from the Kpong plant, which was already facing heavy demand.

In the Community 22 Junction, Moni Obaanye and Bethlehem areas, residents reported a recent improvement in water flow, but some had to buy water from tankers or travel to other communities during interruptions. They also asked the company to improve information for users, according to MyJoyOnline.
