Peter Obi says Tinubu lacks capacity to govern Nigeria

Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, said Bola Tinubu lacked the energy and capacity to govern and called for a change of leadership. At a dinner in Abuja to present his party’s candidates for the 2027 elections with their nominations, he also pledged to oppose any election manipulation, according to Punch.

Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, said on Monday in Abuja that President Bola Tinubu had “neither the energy nor the capacity” to govern the country and should make way for new leadership, Punch reported. The former governor of Anambra State was speaking at a dinner where NDC candidates for the 2027 elections were presented with their nomination certificates.

Obi accused Tinubu’s government of failing to address Nigeria’s difficulties and called for a free, fair and credible election in 2027. He warned that his party would resist any attempt to manipulate the results and said it would campaign in every state and senatorial district in the country.

The NDC candidate also denounced the alleged harassment of his supporters and other Nigerians, while urging political actors to end intimidation. The party’s national chairman, Moses Cleopas, in turn warned members against activities that ran counter to the NDC’s interests.

The statements come as part of the NDC campaign entrusted to Henry Dickson and Peter Obi, announced on 25 October (the NDC’s 2027 campaign). The previous day, the ruling APC’s leader had said that Nigeria supported Tinubu’s re-election (the APC’s stated position).
