Somali leaders discuss alliance to oust Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

Former Somali intelligence chief Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe says he met the leaders of Puntland, Jubaland and Somaliland in the United Arab Emirates to discuss an alliance aimed at ousting President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. He did not confirm that a formal agreement had been reached, according to Caasimada Online.

Former director of the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Cabdullaahi Maxamed Cali Sanbaloolshe, says he met the leaders of Puntland, Jubaland and Somaliland in the United Arab Emirates to discuss an alliance aimed at ousting Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. He named the presidents Said Abdullahi Deni, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, known as Ahmed Madobe, and Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, known as Cirro, according to Caasimada Online.

Sanbaloolshe said the discussions focused on unifying their political positions and the steps the proposed alliance should take. He did not, however, say that a formal agreement had been reached between the three leaders.

Another former NISA director, General Abd al-Rahman Mohamed Turyare, meanwhile accused groups being formed in the Bay, Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions of potentially allying with Al-Shabaab. He did not name any officials or provide evidence to support the claim. Somalia’s Defence Minister, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, also accused opponents gathered in Abu Dhabi of meeting people linked to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, without making public any evidence for the allegation.
