Somalia’s Minister of Health and Social Welfare has retained his post after the House of the People rejected a motion of no confidence in him in Mogadishu on Sunday. Eighty-nine MPs voted for him to remain in office, while 50 voted for his dismissal and five abstained, according to the Somali parliament. The motion was filed on 10 October 2026.
The vote was preceded by a question-and-answer session on the state of the health system and the ministry’s activities, to which the minister responded. MPs also approved amendments to Law No. 130 on the Central Bank, by 137 votes to four, with three abstentions, and appointed the new Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Omar Ma’alin.
The minister’s retention comes after the Somali parliament considered measures against him on 7 October. This development was reported in measures considered against the health minister, ahead of the no-confidence vote announced on 25 October.
