The Somali army’s Danab special forces conducted an operation against suspected al-Shabaab fighters in Goobanle, between the Lower Shabelle and Bay regions. Several suspects were arrested, while others were being sought, according to a Somali military report that did not specify their number or any items seized.

Danab commandos, a special forces unit of the Somali army, arrested several suspects linked to al-Shabaab during a search-and-destroy operation in Goobanle, an area connecting the Lower Shabelle and Bay regions, according to a Somali military report. The suspects are believed to belong to the al-Qaeda-affiliated armed group.

Other suspects remain at large after escaping the forces involved in the operation. Danab commandos say they aim to prevent threats to civilians and consolidate security in areas retaken from al-Shabaab, according to the military report.

The operation follows several Somali army actions against the armed group, including one near Caad on 8 October. It also comes amid Emirati drone strikes against al-Shabaab in Puntland, reported on 23 October in Emirati drone strikes against al-Shabaab.
