Guinea-Bissau’s Prime Minister Ilídio Vieira Té has ordered the creation of an interministerial commission to assess debts owed to court clerks. The commission will bring together representatives of the ministries of Justice, Finance and Public Administration, the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement reported by the ANG news agency on Saturday 24 October.
The review will cover salary arrears, pay disparities linked to promotions, delays in granting permanent status and other administrative situations that have led to differences in pay. The decision was announced at a meeting between Ilídio Vieira Té and a delegation from the Court Clerks’ Union, which focused on following up on a memorandum of understanding signed with the government.
The Prime Minister also said that 14,000 to 15,000 public servants had recently been granted permanent status, mainly in education and health. He added that about 80% of the state’s tax revenue was spent on paying salaries, as preparations are under way for the 2027 general state budget, according to ANG.
