Two motorists were abducted by gunmen on Monday afternoon on the road linking Ikenne and Odogbolu in Nigeria’s Ogun State, the newspaper Leadership reports. The victims were travelling in vehicles found abandoned on the road at around 5 pm.

A witness cited by Leadership said the attackers had taken the occupants and that one vehicle’s engine was still running when the police arrived. Another witness, however, said three people had been abducted. Their identities had not been established by Tuesday evening.

Police, local security forces and the anti-kidnapping unit launched a search for the victims and to arrest the suspects, according to Leadership. The Ikenne-Odogbolu road is used as a diversion route when traffic is heavy on the Sagamu-Ore-Benin expressway.
