Six residents were killed on Monday evening in an attack by armed men on the Gero community in the Jos South local government area of Nigeria’s Plateau State, the state police confirmed on Tuesday, according to ThisDay. Governor Caleb Mutfwang promised to pursue those responsible.
The governor said investigators had recovered evidence at the scene and were following several leads that could lead to arrests. He urged residents to quickly pass any credible information to the security forces, noting that officers cannot be present in all communities at the same time.
Caleb Mutfwang also announced the arrest of the alleged leader of a previous deadly attack in Kombun district, in the Mangu area. His administration would continue to support prosecutions against those involved in the violence, he said.
The revised death toll from the Gero attack follows the announcement of an initial toll of seven deaths in the attack reported in Nigeria’s Plateau State, published on 27 October.
