The governor of Nigeria’s Katsina State, Dikko Radda, called for a thorough investigation after the killing of Islamic preacher Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, Punch reports. In a statement issued on Monday 26 October by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammed, he asked security services to identify and arrest those responsible.

Masussuka and an associate were killed by armed men travelling on motorcycles outside the preacher’s residence in the Dutsin-Ma local government area on Monday evening. Radda urged residents to remain calm and pass any useful information to the authorities, while warning them against acts that could fuel tensions.

The governor described the preacher as an advocate of peaceful coexistence between religions and a voice against violent extremism. The killing, along with that of his visitor, was reported on 26 October in the attack on a Muslim preacher and an associate in Nigeria.
