Nigeria’s Minister Joseph Tegbe unveils a roadmap to stabilise the electricity grid, increase transmission capacity and attract new investment. The plan targets generation constraints, distribution losses and three priority energy corridors, according to the Daily Post.
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, presented a roadmap on Tuesday 27 October 2026 to stabilise the electricity grid, expand transmission capacity and attract new investment, the Daily Post reports. He was speaking at the opening of the Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit 2026, held in Lagos from 27 to 29 October.
The plan is based on four priorities: strengthening energy zones, improving liquidity and the sector’s viability, optimising existing equipment and developing infrastructure to meet future demand. Joseph Tegbe cited difficulties with gas supply, congestion on the transmission network, distribution losses and accumulated debts as the main obstacles to be addressed.
The strategy sets out three priority corridors: Lagos-Ogun, Benin-Enugu-Port Harcourt and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano. The government also intends to reduce technical and commercial losses by continuing the Presidential Metering Initiative, the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme and the Meter Acquisition Fund.
Nigeria has already settled 1.23 trillion naira of an estimated 3.3 trillion naira in sector debt, the minister said. The roadmap builds on efforts to strengthen the grid, following the commissioning of new substations that added 616 MW to Nigeria’s electricity network, announced on 26 October in the electricity sector.
