The suspended SOCO social cohesion programme projects are to resume in northern Ghana and the Oti Region after funding was released, national project coordinator Elizabeth Ohenewa Agyei announced on Tuesday 27 October 2026 during a Ghana-Togo working session in Nalerigu, MyJoyOnline reports. Ghana’s Ministry of Finance has released funds to complete the ongoing works.

Elizabeth Ohenewa Agyei said contractors were remobilising to return to the sites. The SOCO programme, supported by the World Bank, aims in particular to improve infrastructure and livelihoods in the regions concerned. The coordinator also reported discussions on a possible third phase of the project, saying she was optimistic about it.

The Nalerigu session brought together Ghanaian and Togolese officials to examine the programme’s implementation and strengthen cross-border cooperation. North East Regional Minister Ibrahim Tia called for increased collaboration in the face of violent extremism, cross-border crime and illicit arms trafficking.
