Ghanaian Minister for Local Government Mahama Ayariga called for ESG commitments to be translated into concrete, measurable action across the economy. At a summit in Accra, he urged better public-sector coordination, more sustainable finance and accountability mechanisms, according to MyJoyOnline.
Ghana’s Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, called on Ghana to move from ESG commitments to concrete, measurable measures on 27 October in Accra. He was speaking at the 2026 Ghana National Climate and ESG Policy Summit, according to MyJoyOnline.
Mahama Ayariga said implementation required better coordination between public institutions, the mobilisation of sustainable finance and partnerships with the private sector, development partners, universities and civil society. He also stressed transparency, accountability, institutional capacity and reliable data.
The minister called on public and private institutions to adopt credible sustainability practices, better manage environmental and social risks, and report on their progress using measurable standards and indicators. He urged the summit to produce public policy recommendations, institutional commitments and action strategies rather than discussions alone.
The remarks follow recent calls by the Ghanaian government to transform the country’s resources and strengthen governance. On 23 October, Ghana set a target to process its minerals locally before 2030 (Ghana’s mineral processing plans).
