Ghanaian Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has summoned teacher unions to resolve validation issues holding up promotion arrears for about 28,000 people. The government has already paid the sums owed to 52,000 teachers out of around 80,000 applicants, the minister said on Joy FM on 27 October 2026.

Ghana’s Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, is due to meet teacher unions on Tuesday 27 October to resolve validation issues delaying payment of salary promotion arrears to 28,000 teachers. He announced the meeting on Joy FM, according to MyJoyOnline.

The government has already paid arrears to 52,000 teachers who had completed the validation process by 16 October, out of about 80,000 applicants. The outstanding cases also include people who are not teachers and may not be eligible for payment, Haruna Iddrisu said, according to MyJoyOnline.

The ministry is aiming to settle the payments by mid-November or the end of November. It may also request an additional budget allocation for October to fund the payments, according to the minister.

The meeting comes after teachers suspended their strike over payment delays. It follows the validation process for 51,000 files of striking teachers, announced on 4 October.
