Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress denies that President Bola Tinubu promised to eradicate poverty within the first three years of his term. Its spokesperson Felix Morka says the campaign commitments were progressive goals, according to the Daily Post, during an appearance on Arise Television.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), the governing party in Nigeria, says President Bola Tinubu never promised to eradicate poverty in the country within three years. Its national spokesperson, Felix Morka, said on Arise Television on Tuesday that Tinubu set no such timeline during his election campaign.
Felix Morka also denied that the president had promised to eliminate poverty within the first 100 days of his term or during its first two years. He presented the campaign commitments as goals to be achieved progressively, without a specific deadline, and called for the government’s efforts to be assessed in light of Nigeria’s economic difficulties.
The spokesperson defended the administration’s record, saying it was tackling the country’s structural problems and that it was unfair to judge it a failure because all the election promises had not yet been fulfilled. He also argued that a first four-year term allows a president to understand national challenges and develop a strategy, while a possible second term would be used to implement it.
The position comes after the party launched Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Kaduna on 24 October. The following day, an APC leader said Nigeria backed the president’s re-election.
