An alert over a possible gas leak interrupted Senegal’s National Assembly’s plenary session during consideration of the 2026 supplementary finance bill. President Ousmane Sonko temporarily suspended the debate as a precaution, reports Senego.

Consideration of Senegal’s supplementary finance bill for 2026 was suspended in the National Assembly after a possible gas leak was reported during a plenary session, according to Senego. The institution’s president, Ousmane Sonko, halted proceedings while the circumstances surrounding the alert were verified.

The incident occurred as the general rapporteur of the Finance and Budgetary Control Committee was presenting his report on the bill, which is intended to adjust the state’s revenue and expenditure for the 2026 financial year, reports Senego. MPs are examining the bill amid political tensions over the government’s budgetary priorities.

The suspension comes after the rejection of the supplementary budget by Senegal’s committee, announced on 25 October. It also follows the documents requested by Senegal’s National Assembly on 26 October.
