Senegalese Industry and Trade Minister Serigne Guèye Diop says the president could take responsibility if the 2026 supplementary finance bill is not adopted. He accused the parliamentary majority of seeking to block the bill after its rejection in committee, according to Senego.

Senegalese Industry and Trade Minister Serigne Guèye Diop warned on Monday 26 October that the president of the Republic could “take responsibility” if the National Assembly did not adopt the 2026 supplementary finance bill. He accused the parliamentary majority of seeking to block the bill after it was rejected in committee, at a press conference held by the presidential Kiraay party, Senego reports.

“Either they vote for the bill, which is what we want and are asking for, or the president takes responsibility,” the minister said. He said the head of state could enact a budget and continue state activities, adding that “no one can block Senegal”.

The rejection in committee of the 2026 supplementary budget was followed by statements from political and government officials. Senegal’s prime minister also defended the supplementary finance bill.
