Senegalese party Kiiraay-Les Patriotes républicains presented an agricultural, pastoral, fishing and sustainable development strategy for the North in Saint-Louis. The conclusions are to be sent to the authorities to inform preparations for Act IV of decentralisation, Ndarinfo reports.
The departmental coordination of Kiiraay-Les Patriotes républicains presented proposals for economic, social and sustainable development in northern Senegal in Saint-Louis on Saturday 24 October, at a forum devoted to Act IV of decentralisation, according to Ndarinfo.
Participants discussed agricultural resources, livestock, fishing and the department and region’s natural resources. Faly Seck, the party’s deputy national supervisor responsible for administration and logistics and coordinator in Dagana, said the conclusions would be sent to the authorities to inform their decisions concerning the North. He said other Kiiraay structures could replicate the initiative.
The departmental coordinator for Saint-Louis, Cheikhouna Gueye, welcomed the mobilisation of party activists and relayed their request for additional resources. He described Faly Seck as the party’s financier in the area.
Kiiraay was launched in July by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The Saint-Louis meeting is part of the party’s activities in the departments, as it goes through a period of crisis with Pastef. In July, the head of state presented Act IV as a reform aimed in particular at strengthening the capacities of local authorities. The initiative follows Kiiraay’s desire to become Kolda’s leading political force, reported on 25 October.
In another political development, Kiiraay’s general supervisor, Aminata Touré, accused the parliamentary majority of blocking 2.505 trillion CFA francs in spending by rejecting the 2026 supplementary finance bill in committee. Consideration of the bill in plenary was scheduled for Tuesday 27 October.
