Senegal’s National Division for the Fight against Migrant Trafficking and Related Practices (DNLT), the service responsible for these investigations, has referred 28 suspects to the prosecutor’s office after nine cases involving migrant trafficking, attempted irregular emigration and fraud, Seneweb reports.
Operations were carried out notably in Saint-Louis and Karang, as well as by the DNLT’s central services. The cases also concern alleged criminal conspiracy, endangering the lives of others and complicity. In one case in Saint-Louis, three people are also charged with using, possessing or trafficking Indian hemp, according to Seneweb.
In Saint-Louis, the referrals took place between 19 and 21 October 2026. Four suspects brought before the prosecutor on 21 October are charged with criminal conspiracy and maritime migrant trafficking. The announcement comes the day after 59 migrants who had departed Senegal landed in the Canary Islands, as reported on 26 October by Seneweb.
