Idrissa Seck, a former Prime Minister of Senegal under Abdoulaye Wade and leader of the Rewmi party, spoke out on Tuesday 27 October after more than two years of silence. His statements have rekindled hope among his supporters, reports Lesoleil.
Cheikh Guèye, a committed member of Rewmi, says supporters had been living “in despair” since 2024. Other activists describe Idrissa Seck as an opposition figure because of his career and experience, despite criticism from his detractors over his rapprochement with the government after he left the opposition.
Some supporters are already looking ahead to the next presidential election. Birane Lo, who came to encourage the politician, says activists are ready to support him. Another activist highlights his commitment to women’s participation in public life, according to Lesoleil.
